I have heard from a couple of members of my family living in different parts of Penicuik that 'Talk Talk' have been going round knocking on doors and trying to sell the finer points of signing up - part of the sales pitch though is 'can I come in and check your phone line' to which the answer has been a definate no. For the life of me though I cannot think why they would need to check the line except to enhance the sales pitch with a 'oh yes you'll get a really good broadband experience with ...

As part of my work I went across to Glenrothes in Fife today. I had been invited to attend an event called 'Safe Drive Stay Alive'. It is on every day this week and 5th and 6th year pupils are invited from schools all over Fife. After ministers, councillors and others had given their speeches to myself and other road safety representatives,we were taken to an auditorium where the kids were. One guy was working to get the kids hyped up by getting a few of them to take part in games on the stage, ...

Today I was in Edinburgh and got the 15 from Lothian Road, for a Sunday it was very busy indeed I got the last seat. Anyway the journey was going well though it was more like being on a boat with the rain on the windows and the spray from the road! Anyhow heading towards the Roslin the road was flooded at the dip just before entering Roslin so we heads through the water and a loud thud could be heard, someone wanted off so I assumed it was maybe something being dropped (bus much much quieter ...

Yes, I know it seems a bit far fetched but Midlothian Council have decided to allow a new snack bar to open in the layby near Gowkley Moss roundabout. The operator of Papa McGill did object to it (despite that fact he has been shut for several months and the portacabin is now rather shabby) but the council gave the go ahead, especially as he failed to turn up for 2 meetings.

It is not often we can praise the cooncil (well hardly ever) but for once they have got it right!!!!

The last time she wasn't able to sit it because when she arrived she found that she didn't have the paper copy of her license. This was despite being asked the night before if she had everything Anyway at least now she can try for her practical test

To put it mildly I'm feeling a bit annoyed at the moment. Yesterday I took an automated phone call from my bank. It told me that two transactions had been made for £300 to Hong Kong using Paypal and £12 to a bookmaker in the UK Eventually I got through to a real person and my card has been stopped and another one is being sent to me. Thankfully it looks as if no money has been taken out of my account so I won't even lose the money temporarily. However, I forgot about it this morning and cycled ...

It seems that E.ON have decided to appeal just when we thought the whole silly idea was out the window. I notice they are using the old story about the windfarm powering 24,000 houses but forgetting to mention that these will be miles away down in England - assuming there is some wind of course. They also don't mention the huge subsidies which they receive to both build and run windfarms (£1m per turbine plus a substantial amount ...

I also understand that one of the reasons behind the proposal may be to provide car parking for the new flats that are being built. Is this the case? I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to open it up again and it would definitely be a bad idea to allow parking as the width of street ...

Auchendinny Hall

I see there was a meeting tonight to discuss the future / replacement of the Auchendinny village hall. About time too I'd reckon given that the present one looks like its only still standing thanks to cobwebs and good luck. The only downside was the meeting being held in the Victoria Inn where I had headed for a few beers and not being a 'villager' wasn't too keen on sitting through it all, so ended up saving a few quid.. Not a bad night for a walk.
