Two articles regarding the cooncils "consultation" of parents about possible changes to school catchment areas (which might include sending children from Mauricewood and Glencorse to Loanhead)

Please remember that they only reason they want your views is so they know what NOT to do!

In yesterdays Evening News there was an article about how the new site as Straiton is only manned at certain hours of the day i.e. peak times and so could be unattractive to people using it given that they would have to wait outside the waiting room area for a bus to arrive, I thought maybe it was a mistake and that even when unmanned there would still be access to the seating area etc - But no. Anyone got any more info on this? It seems to be another of their secret decisions which they seem to love now. I assume they know that not may people in Penicuik like them so they have nothing to lose.

Yes, I know it seems a bit far fetched but Midlothian Council have decided to allow a new snack bar to open in the layby near Gowkley Moss roundabout. The operator of Papa McGill did object to it (despite that fact he has been shut for several months and the portacabin is now rather shabby) but the council gave the go ahead, especially as he failed to turn up for 2 meetings.

It is not often we can praise the cooncil (well hardly ever) but for once they have got it right!!!!

They do this every so often - have tried the Peni-deli, Jeans Cafe and found a favourite in L'Amitie before it closed - this was their first time at the Olympia. They are all polite & well-behaved (relatively speaking!!) and in no way "troublemakers".

How about suggestions for other sites that need cleaned up. For a start, they could take down the "Edinburgh Crystal" signs next to Strathesk School and get rid of the old bookies shop next to Tesco but please ensure something is done with ...

I see that there was an accident at Gowkley Moss roundabout tonight. A pickup truck seems to have careered off the road just past the Roslin turnoff. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if that stupid short bus lane had something to do with it Last Sunday a bus driver had the cheek to flash their lights at me, presumably because I was in his/her bus lane

I saw it with my own eyes, honest. Someone opening a new shop in the precinct! Not, not a takeaway or a hairdresser - an actual shop!.

And what's more, I honestly believe it has a good chance of success! It's a fishing tackle shop. Now, if you don't fish, you might not appreciate just how much fishing goes on around here. There's Edgelaw, Glencorse, Loganlea, that wee place near Rosewell; the Tweed's not far away.....

But, if you need tackle, you have to travel to Edinburgh, Musselburgh ...

About time too I'd reckon given that the present one looks like its only still standing thanks to cobwebs and good luck. The only downside was the meeting being held in the Victoria Inn where I had headed for a few beers and not being a 'villager' wasn't too keen on sitting through it all, so ended up saving a few quid.. Not a bad night for a walk.

It is admittedly bad, but (knowing nothing about engineering) I would have though it could be shored-up on the weakened side. (I've certainly seen stable roads in more difficult places.)

I'll try to post some pictures later when I've worked out how to do it.

I heard from someone today that there are rumours about the merging of Penicuik's two high schools sometime in the near future, presumably to reduce costs since the cooncil are so skint. No doubt they could save lots of cash by having only one "management team" but how it would work in practice is another question. Maybe certain years at each site or pupils having to move between them for different classes?

This could be another one of those daft stories that go around but who knows?

However, on my way back I passed one of them who seemed to have broken down and had to walk with the bike . I then passed someone on a horse and found the other two bikes. They were trying to get to their friend but couldn't pass the horse in case the noise from the bikes spooked it.
