I see the cost of petrol and diesel is creeping higher once more, especially if you live in Penicuik with the BP monopoly. At the moment it is costing 105.9p a litre there - when I was on holiday in Skye last week some garages there were cheaper or only 2p more!!! Evil or Very Mad

I use this site to send me email alerts for the cheapest fuel in the area.

www.petrolprices.com

Quite often Sainbury's at Straiton is the cheapest in the area.

Seems to be a BP thing, Penicuik and the one at Liberton are generally a few pence dearer than the likes of Sainsburys and Esso (Lothianburn). The best value garages generally seem to be around the Craigleith area of Edinburgh where there is a Sainsburys, Esso & Shell all within a short distance - Obviously no savings to be made though if you've got to specifically drive there to fill up!!!

I noticed today that Sainsbury is selling both petrol and diesel for the same price , £1.01. It suits me as I use diesel but my son uses petrol and he is far from happy.

Looks like we might have some good news on petrol prices in Penicuik next year! My weekly trawl through the planning site shows that Tesco have applied to rebuild the petrol station once they demolish it (former car wash / Save / Eastford Motors site) so that will mean some competition at last.
They also plan to put a glass panel at the side of the store with automatic doors (just like Sainsburys at Straiton) to stop the gales blowing in to the shop - wonder why it took them so long?

I've just been for diesel at Sainsburys at Cameron toll and the price is now £1.03 per litre. Thankfully after buying our shopping we received a coupon giving us 5p off per litre.

'bout time. They applied ages ago for something similar which I think was intended to put the ATMs under cover or somewhere more secure, I'm not sure which. I seem to remember they got planning consent at the time; God knows why they never went ahead with it.
As far as the petrol station is concerned, I'm afraid I'll believe that the day I drive in there and fill the tank!

Wow - there are some guys actually working at the petrol station / car wash site so it looks like something is going to happen there! Surely this is too much, can the people of Penicuik cope with all the activity all at once

Question

I spoke too soon!!! They started work there but have now stopped with all the diggers etc just sitting there like tramworks. I wonder if a certain petrol station handed out a few "brown envelopes" to the workmen???

Very Happy

They have started demolition work this morning with the car wash gone and the building rapidly disappearing! Hopefully it means that we will have a new petrol station there before Christmas if all goes to plan - no more trips to Sainsburys, Hillend or Eskbank
