Proposed houses at the Dalmore papermill

The weather wasn't too bad today so I decided to go for a run down by Valleyfield and along the old railway. As I was passing the site of the old Dalmore papermill I noticed that there were quite a few tree trunks lying about but I couldn't see where they had been cut down from. However, on the way back, as I was heading towards Auchendinny, it all became clear. Not only have they cleared away the papermill but now they have chopped down all the trees behind the house that used to be there Mad

All that is left is the pool and it looks very bare Evil or Very Mad

I wouldn't be surprised if they are going to build more houses here. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Take a good look at this picture as you will never see this again.

Coming to a place near you? Who needs trees anyway? Where are the tree people when you need them? I'm sure it will look much better after they have planted a few houses Rolling Eyes

I haven't been down there for a while but, as I recall the place, it's difficult to imagine them being able to build there.

Looking at your pictures, it looks more like a bit of woodland management than a real effort to clear the place completely.

There again, maybe it's best to expect the worst. That way, you don't get disappointments.

There is quite a bit of land there and I can't think of any benefits to the area of clearing away all the well established trees that were there Sad

I'm quite sure that if a builder is given permission to build then they will not hesitate to drain the pond and plant 3 or 4 detached houses Mad

I'm afriad there is planning permission for (I think) 120 flats/houses on the old papermill site.

Already being advertised scratch

Access will presumably be from the existing road, between the two sets of traffic lights. Embarassed

Fun and games that will be in the morning.
Not to mention the havoc it's going to cause to the foot path and continued access along it. Shouldn't grumble I suppose. We've now got the skate park to walk around I guess.

They did have a big sign up at the site advertising the houses for quite a while. However, I may be wrong, but I thought that the reason they were being allowed to build the houses was because it was a brown field site. To clear away all these trees and then claim that it is part of the brown field site seems to be stretching it a bit.

Well, I went for a look, but I'm still not sure what's going on.

They've felled all the trres on the side next to the access road, but left some on the opposite bank. There's also a strange earth ramp at the bottom end as though they are trying to fill it in rather than drain it.

I'm wondering if they plan to put a new access road through that part. The existing access is pretty narrow.

With the trees gone, it's more obvious that the pond was man-made. (At least, that's how it looks to me.) Maybe that's enough to make it "brown field."
