AS the state of Midlothian's roads get worse by the day how about some reports from around the area to see who has the worst potholes?

The ones in my street are getting so big now that I expect Scottish Coal to turn up any day now and start an open cast mine in them! No doubt Kwik Fit are very pleased though with all the damaged tyres / wheels / shock absorbers Mad

All roads in and around Ladywood are an absolute discrace, as is the road through the industrial estate. Just wonder why they resurfaced the road at Auchendinny, didn't think it was too bad compared with other roads. Surely only a matter of time before we hear of people suing for the cost of repair to vehicles..

Well, apart from the holes in the main road of the estate where I live, my favourite pet hate is Eastfield farm road next to Tesco Evil or Very Mad This shows what it was like when Google took a picture and it has only become worse since then.

I am sure that bit is sponsored by the nearby Kwik Fit centre so they do NOT fix it! Even when they do mend the potholes, it is only a temporary patch job so the workmen know they will be back soon.

The reason is visible in the left of the photograph, Andy
When Midlothian Council granted permission for this "health food outlet" which was there to meet the needs of the passing truckers and nothing whatever to do with being (nearly) on the main drag between Beeslack High School and the usual lunchtime trough of choice they dismissed objections from the Community Council (among others) saying that there really was no good justification for refusal, much as they would like to, etc., etc.
So next time someone applies for a mobile hot food shop to be parked on the highway and where it is causing annoyance to passing motorists (and a couple of near misses to my certain knowledge) show the good Councillors this photograph because that is exactly what happens when a stretch of properly surfaced road intended to take the traffic going one way is suddenly required to take the traffic going both ways.

Mike, I think it is more to do with bad workmanship. Have a look when the burger van has been removed. Both sides are exactly the same.

The cooncil must have been reading this as some workmen came round at teatime today and filled in the holes in my street. They used some black tar which won't last too long but at least it is better than that silly jet patcher device which leaves a pile of gravel all over the place.

Sorry to disagree with you, Chris. If you look at anywhere in Penicuik (and elsewhere as well probably) where traffic is forced onto the "wrong" side of the road or, as on Cuiken Terrace, into a chicane, you'll find the same problem.
Rullion Road where cars are always parked on the bend at the top of the hill is a case in point.
I'll take your word for the state of Eastfield Farm Road since I've never actually seen that side of the road (there's always a van parked on it
Shocked!) but the argument is still valid. Roads are for traffic to move on, not sit on, and where there might be excuses in housing estates there is no justification for encouraging a situation which is only going to add to the £36 million it would cost to bring Midlothian's roads back up to the standard they should be at.

Just my opinion, ye ken. Cool

Sam Tyler --- they've been round my way as well. Whatever stuff they've discovered it's certainly a great improvement on what they were using before.

Mike, I dont's disagree with your argument, but just wanted to point out that both sides of that road are bad.

This part of the road in front of Nobles garage is also pretty bad and has been for ages. I especially hate it when I forget about it when I'm on my bike Evil or Very Mad http://tinyurl.com/37zkg2u

It looks as if the problem with the maintenance of roads isn't just confined to Midlothian

I see that someone has been busy with a can of yellow spray paint. They have marked around the potholes in our estate and the road next to Tesco. Hopefully it won't be long now before they do something about fixing them Smile

The yellow paint seems to be on streets all over Penicuik, though they must have run out as there are many with white paint having been used....
