Is that definitely a children's nursery they're building there?

Aye, that's it.

But, apart from the fact that concerns have been raised - as mentioned in that article - concerning the junction there, other things are puzzling me.

For a start, the building in progress just doesn't look like a children's nursery. (Sorry, I can't explain..... It jist disnae look the part!)

And here's another little anomoly. As we know, the Fire Brigade couldn't put the fire out because the water supply for the old inn was no more than a nearby spring. (That has been confirmed to me by a previous owner.)

For that reason, it was decided that the site was unsuitable for a new inn.
A bigger and better water supply (I'm told) has been found about 100 ft underground - maybe not good for drinking, but fine for putting fires out...... But still not good enough for building a new inn on top of.

Fine, dandy and hunky dory for building a kiddie's nursey though??? (Presumably because small children are less flammable - or maybe even less valuable - than booze.)

So I've been a bit puzzled for a while. And the more I look at what's being built there, the more puzzled I get.

Take a look yourselves. Does that look like a children's nursery?

Rather big. Two storeys. Limited parking for staff and parents - or else the playground is very small and right in the line of fire in the event of a "similar incident" to the one that destroyed the pub.

Nah! something disnae look or smell right.

Recently there was a revised planning application which is copied below.

08/00313/FUL
D And A Leisure (Scotland) Ltd, C/o 65 Polton Vale, Loanhead, EH20 9DF
Amendment to Planning Permission 06/00168/FUL (erection of hotel (replacement for Leadburn Inn) with ancillary restaurant bar and function suite) to allow change of use from hotel bedrooms to managers flat
at Leadburn Inn, Peebles Road , Midlothian, EH46 7BE
granted with conditions

I think the nursery thing was just something they were trying to get round some regulations or something. I heard that another restaurant thing is also being built near there somewhere - anybody know anything about that one?

That makes more sense. Thank you, Sam.

I was hoping it was a grey squirrel sanctuary.

Another fatal accident at Leadburn reported today. How many more before the council or government take action?

It was on the STV news this evening as well with more details here http://news.stv.tv/scotland/east-central/153066-elderly-woman-dies-in-black-spot-road-smash/ It's sad that another life has been lost at that junction. It is the council who are responsible for the roads at the junction as they are not trunk

Another crash there on Friday and still no sign of them actually doing anything about it.
