Fire at Straiton Empty
PostSubject: Fire at Straiton   Fire at Straiton Icon_minitimeWed Oct 12, 2011 1:24 pm

One of my kids came home last night and told me that there was a big fire at Straiton but she couldn't tell where it was. I couldn't see out of the bus windows this morning as it was dark and they were steamed up. Does anyone know what happened?

Okay, on my way home I saw that the vacant houses near the turn-off for Loanhead at Straiton look badly burned, so that answers my question. There was also something on the STV news but I just heard the tail end of it.

This is the STV story:
http://news.stv.tv/scotland/east-central/274368-suspicious-fire-breaks-out-at-derelict-cottages/

This might get the owners (ie: Straiton Park lot) to do something with the site and make it look a bit better. If they demolished them all (and the Callyr Inn too) the whole place would look a lot better and would be much safer too.

It was the at least one of the derelict row of cottages at straiton. If you look closely from the bus you can see the charred windows through the trees.

The cottages have now been fenced off. Maybe Peel(Owners of straition) will finally start construction of their department store as the properties now need demolished anyway.
