What does it take to get into college?

One of my kids just missed getting into a course she wanted to do at college last year, so she has been kicking her heels until now. Recently she applied for the course in plenty of time and received an e-mail inviting her to an interview today. When she arrived at the college she was shown to a room with other potential candidates. When a woman came round and checked to see if she was on the list she couldn't find her name. She was then told that the interviews for the course had taken place yesterday They checked with the office and in the end she had to come home When she double checked the e-mail she received it did indeed say that the interview was today

After getting in touch with the college, it now transpires that she had intitally been shown to the wrong room and it just went downhill from there. They are now trying to arrange for another interview and we are waiting for a phone call from the college. I really feel sorry for her as she had prepared herself for the interview and now she has been let down

Andy, I really am so sorry to hear about your daughter's experience but I'm afraid you've just nailed one more of the reasons why I decided to pack up and leave the UK.
Somebody has got this wrong and doesn't really care because, no matter how bad they may feel about it personally, "there's nothing I can do." Nobody is prepared to say "we screwed up; how do we fix it?"
The first (and often only) reaction is back-covering. There is hardly any sense of personal responsibility in public life in the UK and individuals who try to take responsbility are all too often actively discouraged. Rocking the boat is not a good career move!
I truly hope everything works out though.
