I see we are to be given a new blue recycling wheelie bin to replace the blue boxes that we have, roll out starting this month and the 1st pickups being in October. But we'll still have the red box for glass & tins, this is fine but where are we mean't to keep all the bins? Living in a block of four thats now 12 wheelie bins and 4 boxes out the back garden!!

That is the funny thing about all this recycling stuff - it is supposed to help the environment but then everywhere gets covered with loads of different coloured bins and boxes!

I don't know what size this new blue wheelie bin will be, but I thought that the council might take the the old blue boxes away. We have two blue ones at the moment which are always full for collection. As it is I will be struggling to find somewhere for this new bin without having to hold on to the old ones as well.

Feeling more encouraged to recycle now that most of it goes into the blue bin, just have to remember the different collection day! On another note, the neighbours directly above me have also got a hang of it, empty beer bottles into the red box, most other stuff into blue and general crap into grey - except they are missing one critical step... The bit that gets the bins to the kerbside for the council to collect! For about 2 months now we've had a red box full and indeed overflowing with empty beer bottles and the blue bin that should have been emptied yesterday is so full the lid doesn't close properly, everyone else in the stair has mastered the art just his pair...

I think I'm going to like the new system as well and it makes you feel good that you're doing your bit for the environment. Some people just don't appreciate that we have quite a good rubbish collection service, unlike the problems some areas of Edinburgh are having at the moment.

PostSubject: Got the blues   Changes to reclycling coming soon Icon_minitimeThu Oct 11, 2012 8:03 pm

So the blue plastic box is now redundant, the new blue mega wheelie bin takes all plastics, cardboard and tins, leaving only glass for the red box. On this basis, I presumed to recycle my blue box by sticking it in the blue bin. I happened to be at home when the team arrived and watched one of them open the blue bin, toss the blue box to the ground and share a laugh with the rest of his team. So, am I to assume that the blue box provided for recycling is not, in itself, recyclable? It would be ironic to send the recycling box to landfill.
