For the second time in a couple of years...... Empty
PostSubject: For the second time in a couple of years......   For the second time in a couple of years...... Icon_minitimeThu Apr 10, 2014 7:24 pm

.....I was contacted by my bank about "suspicious activity" on my account.

(I'm putting this in Midlothian Issues because I tend to live and work in a relatively small geographic area, and I'm seriously wondering if the root of the problem is also local.)

Has anyone else out there, who tends to use their debit card mainly around Penicuik, had any similar problems with someone or something trying (unsuccessfully, thanks to the bank) to transfer or otherwise nick money from their account?

I've had plenty of e-mails telling me that there has been suspicious activity with my bank account.
Most of them are from banks that I have never worked with but occasionally they strike lucky and
it is about one that I am with. These are however, malicious spam and they are probably wanting to try and
get me to click on some dodgy link and try to get me to reveal my security details.

If they phoned you that also sounds suspicious as that could be another scam that is going the rounds.
They ask for your address and security details, send someone to collect your card and then empty your account.

Also, watch out for ATMs that may have extra bits added to the place where you insert your card. This
could also be a way of stealing your card details.

However, twice I have had someone use my bank details to buy stuff  Mad  However, I still had my card, I never
told anyone my pin number and the bank did refund me the money.

I've had those sorts of emails, texts and phone calls as well.

However, in the two calls I mentioned above, the calls really did come from my bank and there really had been attempts to nick my dough.

As I said, I've got a suspicion that there's a dodgy ATM or something in the small area where I spend most of my time........... and money.

Well, it does indeed look as if there are a few dodgy cash machines kicking about the Lothians  Mad  http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/card-skimming-devices-found-on-lothian-atms-1-3391235
