Watch out there's a thief about Empty
PostSubject: Watch out there's a thief about   Watch out there's a thief about Icon_minitimeFri May 30, 2008 7:07 pm

After spending all week painting and decorating the house I was ready to put my feet up. It's Friday and it's payday and I should be happy but when I checked my debit account I found that somebody has been dipping into it and spent £80 of my money Mad It started with a small amount the other day for which I raised a dispute with my bank. Now I've had to have the card that was being used stopped. Luckily it's a joint account and I can still use my wife's card until I receive a new one. Strangely enough this problem is in addition to the fact that my ISP has charged me twice in the same month for my broadband connection Sad

My luck yesterday wasn't all bad. I went to the garage to put out some recycling rubbish and because it was wet I lost my footing. I fell flat on my face, my arms broke my fall and my chin hit the ground. At the same time I heard a crack Shocked I had fallen on top of the recycling bucket and broke it Smile As for my chin, it was just a tap and I hardly felt it. My trousers were soaking wet but apart from that there was nothing else wrong with me Smile

Have you ever used that debit card to purchase from Cotton Traders website? I recently had a queried transaction on a now defunct card and after checking, found that I had used it with Cotton Traders back in 2006.

Otherwise, have you used it at Bruntsfield BP station or Shell garage in Edinburgh which both had card skimmers recently.

Hope your luck improves now, Andy!

No, I've never used Cotton Traders and I don't think the card had been skimmed as nobody tried to use a duplicate card to withdraw money or buy goods. All the transactions were for 'card not present. I suspect that someone in a shop has noted down the card details and used them to set up accounts with online companies.

Can you believe that it's happened again Mad I withdrew some money from a cashpoint yesterday at lunchtime and everything seemed fine. However, in the afternoon I decided to check my account online. The first thing I noticed was that my balance was only £15 Shocked When I checked the transactions there were two that amounted to £500 for this place http://www.thetrainline.com/default.asp?href=ppcg_brand&gclid=CPrJlorG3JgCFQiF3godqBiccA
which I had not done Crying or Very sad .

Of course I have reported it, but it is such an inconvenience as my card has been cancelled and I will now have to wait for another one. Also, I've got some direct debits outstanding so I have had to put extra money in to cover them, otherwise I would end up being overdrawn.

What I don't understand is that whoever ordered the train tickets must have gone to pick them up. They would then have had to produce my debit card which I still have. However, it seems that they can also deliver them in the London area so maybe that is what has happened. If that is the case hopefully the company will have an address where they were delivered.
