For the 1st time in 3 days this morning the 0752 X47 from Penicuik Centre actually turned up, the goodness of this was lost though when we reached Nobles (about 0810) and joined the queue for the traffic heading towards Edinburgh. Princes Street was finally reached about 0950 so from house to work took me 2 hours 20mins !!!! Just goes to show that the road infrastructure can cope with traffic under normal conditions but take one major road out the equation and everything grinds to a halt. Thankfully this happened during the school holiday period, what would have happened otherwise is anyone's guess. What irks me though is that the matrix sign at IKEA was showing the 'roadworks at Sherrifhall' message, would this not have been better showing that the bypass was closed and to at least make drivers aware and the sign telling drivers that the bypass was closed was actually on the north side of the flyover so actually past the slip road (which just had a line of cones over it).. And then of course the bus makes up time until it reaches Newington and the start of tourists getting on complete with suitcases only to discover that they can't get change!!..............

Thankfully I'm on holiday at the moment so I missed all the exitement Very Happy . However, as my son was going into town by bus and he received a phone call from his driving instructor. He had a lesson scheduled for 1.30pm but the instructor told him that one of his other pupils was unable to sit his driving test today because of the flooded roads. This meant he could give my son his lesson earlier, so he got off the bus at Loanhead and met his instructor.

He was lucky as the bus services seem to have been disrupted. If he had carried on into Edinburgh he would have had to catch the bus right back again to be in time for his lesson.

The rain certainly seems to have caused quite a bit of chaos according to this http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/topstories/Passengers-face-rail-disruption-after.4366909.jp

Just to make matters worse, I reached the bus stop on Princes Street at 1710 and there judging by the number of folk waiting nothing had been heading out to Liberton & Penicuik for some time (I did hear someone say nothing for at least half an hour) and when a X47 did appear it was that busy only about 3 people where aloud on, then a 47 appeared which got so busy it didn't even stop on South Bridge! Didn't get off the bus in Penicuik until about 1830...If I'd typed this last night it would probably of had to been censored...
