End of the trams?!?!

Could this be the beginning of the end for the great tram scheme? I know it does not directly affect people in Midlothian, but anyone who has to travel in to or through Edinburgh will know the problems it causes.

That's just great, now we'll have the pain of all the diversions but no gain This evening it must have taken me about half an hour more to get home and that's before the diversions have started. The main cause was a traffic hold-up at Leith walk/London road. Also, if they are going to divert traffic to Queen street have you seen the muckle great hole they have put there at York place It means that the width of the road is almost cut in half.

concidering how much work has been done, and money spent they cant stop now. i dont want the trams but they are not going to effect me that much but im sure the people of Edinburgh will not approve of all the cut backs so this venture can be funded for nothing.

Said on the news the company wanted another £80 million before they start on Princess street. Were is the money suppose to come from?

Just think what usefull things it can be spent on instead!!

As someone who is affected and travels to work in Edinburgh, I just hope that they have an amicable settlement quickly and that it favours the council. The last thing we need is another project that goes the same way as the Scottish parliament

Better hurry along to Princes Street (outside Jenners) to see the tram mock up on display - you may have to wait many years before the real thing appears on the streets of Edinburgh.

A very interesting comment on this article that the cost may not exceed the £545 million planned budget BUT the line might not be completed since no sane contractor is going to work when they know there is no cash available to pay them. This could mean a nice little "network" running from the airport to Princes Street and no further!

Well it is not the end of the trams but it looks like the trams will end at York Place instead of Leith.

No great surprise given the hugely inflated cost quoted to scrap the project - now they just need to find the cash ti pay for it. They could always place bets on the completion date! Is 2015 too optimist

Just when it seemed they were going to get on with the project it has been revealed that £38 million has been spent on stuff for the section to Newhaven! How much more money will they waste before they get locked up?
