Now I'm not an expert on diet, but I'm fairly sure
battering vegetables isn't really the healthiest way of preparing vegetables.

The Spanish came up with the idea of deep frying chocolate bars years (possibly centuries) before us. The idea was exported to Latin America and became hugely popular, especially in Mexico.
The Spanish even have a name for this delight, but I've forgotten what it is. However, while searching for the Spanish name, I came across the following. A menu for a Mexican Restaurant in the U.S.
