| A pretty bleak picture painted here, this not a pub problem, a drink issue but a behauvioural one. Louts are louts drunk or sober. Don't blame the publicams for the actions of people with free will. The drinks industry is suffering enough as it is, the bulk of alcohol carried by these people is consumed at home, cheap supermarket bevvy, then they only spend a few pounds over the bar. Not a bicyle lamp, or firework mentioned nor a quote from the Crme prevention team. | |

| This sounds to me like the Community Council having a moan. Penicuik is no different from any other town or city after closing time so is this issue going to be tackled everywhere? And the 2am shutting time makes no difference - it would be the same if it were 11am or 12 midnight. In my experience of leaving the pubs at closing time, there is little trouble and any there there is tends to be isolated - granted I am not out often so maybe an isolated view. | |

| More like a touch of what animal behaviourists call "displacement activity". Cats are very good at it when they've done something embarrassing like fall off the back of the chair or leap on a mouse and miss. When you've just made an a**e of yourself in public then do something - anything - to distract attention. | |

| Heard it got a bit rough in the High Street, after closing time last night. Mini mob turned on two of the dispersal team. Messy. | |

| Other version guiser in costume thought it would be cool to present a toy costume gun, at a police car, that created a heavy response, humour drained on both sides, mayhem and comedy ensued. Roll on Wed to read the Squeek account. | |

| Midlothian Provost Adam Montgomery broadsides the Advertiser in a well worded letter about last weeks front page. Say what you will about Mr. Montgomery he has done more good than bad in his adopted Town that many of those to have a pre creation claim to the town and County. A news in brief reports that a male had appeared in the Sheriff Court on Monday on police asssault and resist arrest charges. One of the dispersal team required hospital treatment. Two others involved in the incident were issued with Fixed Penalty Tickets for Breach of the Peace. I ask you.? Fixed Panalty Tickets.

| Fixed Penalty Tickets? Does that mean they get to go and see a Rangers / Celtic match free then? | |

| Another meeting, that should solve it. Crime prevention panel Secretary Mr Jack McGowan, wants late licences to be curtailed or pubs closed. Hope he doesn't discover that shoplifers operate in Penicuik and his solution is close shops down. (Or has he?). Police cannot cope because of operational shift Patterns. I am sure even Sir Robert Peel would have factored in extra patrols on Friday and saturday nights. Welcome to Planet earth. A few scrany tanked up kids and the great and the good scratch their heads and stroke their chins. | |
