Road Works Empty
PostSubject: Road Works   Road Works Icon_minitimeSat Jun 30, 2012 7:16 pm

It's bad enough having road works when it is obvious work is being done. However, today going through Bilston there are temporary traffic lights but no holes or workmen and the road seems to be in a reasonable condition. It was very frustrating having to wait in a queue of traffic for no good reason and they had to pick the beginning of the trades as well. I believe they are going to be doing something tomorrow but that is of very little comfort Mad

I was delayed going in to Edinburgh by these "roadworks" - cannot even see why they need to have traffic lights as the trench seems to be at the side of the road. Perhaps they decided that traffic was flowing too well on the A701!

As if the rain wasn't bad enough, on the way home tonight the bus seemed to be held up for a long time just after Asda. Turns out those pesky evil traffic lights at Bilston have returned with a vengence Evil or Very Mad

It seems like someone is conspiring to cause as many delays to the buses as possible. We have Mr Wimpey with his roadworks at Bilston holding up all the services at the moment and now gas pipe work on Rullion Road to make the 37s run even later than usual! I noticed today on the trackers that one bus was due in 5 minutes with the next one in 34 minutes - so much for the "every 20 minutes" claim! The government want people to use public transport but they only seem able to put people off using it!

Well, that was fun this morning. As the bypass was flooded at Hermiston Gate/Dreghorn extra traffic seemed to be coming on to the A701. The traffic was therefore nose to tail from Bilston to Kaimes crossroads and the pesky lights at Bilston didn't help Mad It took us about an hour todo a 15 minute journey Sad

On Saturday I left the house at 10.30am, finally got on the 37 bus at 10.51am then took ages to get along the A701 reaching Kaimes Crossroads about 11.35am where we got nowhere as the traffic lights decided to stick on red for northbound traffic. Everyone else got to go okay then the bus driver flagged down a police van and they waved us through eventually with the lights changing to green as soon as the bus moved! Next was the chaos of Waverley Station with trains cancelled or delayed so instead of travelling to Dunfermline I had to go to Inverkeithing, finally arriving at 1.10pm. Not the quickest journey ever!

Signs are up today, apparently Cuiken Terrace is to be closed to through traffic from Mon 16th for 8 weeks for resurfacing work to take place. Tempted to say "about time", the pot holes as you get to the John Street junction cannot be good for anything or anyone..

Now they have finished the work at the foot of Cuiken Terrace something else had to be done to stop the traffic flowing on the A701 so BT come along and dig up Wilson Street with another set of traffic lights! There must be some planning goes in to this as they seem intent on causing as many delays as possible to everyone.
Not sure if it was just these works or one of the many others at the moment but the 37 bus service was well messed up today - most times I have looked at the online tracker it shows 30+ minutes until the next one is due. Currently there are two 37s due in 30 minutes time!! Looks like I will have to stick to the rapid transit system known as walking Very Happy

And there's more to come......re-alignment of the road & installation of traffic lights at the bottom of Grahams Road & Auchendinny in relation to the new builds at Dalmore. This might cause conjestion there at peak times resulting in more thru-traffic for Penicuik.
