| I've heard that BT Infinity will be available in my area from the end of September. It will be offering 24 Mb downloading so I will definitely be interested | |

| Might your results depend on the time of day you do the test?
I just did the test three times - for some reason, the lower my download speed came, the higher my upload speed went. (All the results were a lot better than your's though.)
Download Upload 2.27 and 0.622 2.10 and 0.634 2.09 and 0.655

| You're right it will vary depending on the timeof day. However, I have had just over 1 Mbps sometimes. I know that the maximum I can get at the moment is 3 Mbps but even that is still pathetic I just hope that BT wiil deliver on their promise | |

| Well, so much for BT's promise of Infinity by the 30 September Now when I check availability it tells me that it will be available on 31 December I logged into a BT chat line and was told by my chat buddy to ring a number to speak to an engineer who would be happy to explain. After ringing the number and waiting 20 odd minutes, the foreign sounding woman basically told me what I already knew and could not proviede me with a reason for the delay | |

| No idea why it should be taking so long for BT Infinity to be active in your area since it has been working at Mauricewood for a few months now and the new cabinet was installed at Glencorse around the same time. I suppose they might be waiting for a minimum number of customers to sign up before switching it on to help recover the costs. It might be worth checking with Sky and Talk Talk as they will offer a similar service and the threat of moving ISPs can have amazing results! | |

| I just checked today to see what the situation was for the Glencorse area and it has now been pushed back to by March 31st 2013. I would think there are plenty of people in that part of Penicuik wanting Infinity to make it worthwhile, especially when the main part of the work has been done already. Hopefully a few more complaints to the ASA will give BT the incentive (ie: a kick up the backside) to get a move on! | |

| Well, I checked to see if there had been any change to the date when BT Infinity would be available and it seems to have disappeared altogether So who knows when we will get it now Anyway, on Saturday my son told me that due to a problem with a corrupt file in his online game, he would have to download the whole game again, all 15GB The last time he did this a couple of weeks ago it took almost a week and slowed everything else up I then decided something had to be done (the sacrifices we make for our kids) so I spent over an hour talking to the hell desk and going through the usual hoops testing this that and the next thing. Finally they wanted me to connect my router directly to the phone box that comes into the house. By this time I'd had enough and didn't fancy scrambling under my desk trying to unhook it and they said they would phone back on Monday to find out if that improved things. They didn't phone back but after two more phone calls and another half an hour wasted listening to stupid music I have finally got a phone engineer coming tomorrow to look at the problem | |

| The BT engineer has left now and the news is good. There was a fault at the exchange which has been fixed. My son tells me that the engineer told him he was now getting 3.7 Mbps. If that is the case that's brilliant However, I had about eight phone cables attached to two faceplates at the main socket and he has now removed one of the faceplates and disconnected some of the phones Some of them were redundant anyway, but it seems that he has disconnected one of the main ones which goes to the living room. Hopefully I'll be able to fix it when I get home. | |

| 3.7Mbps sounds about right for Glencorse area as the ADSL speed there is quite a bit slower than other parts of Pencuik (eg. Cornbank 10-12Mbps, Mauricewood 12-16Mbps) It seems that BT forgot to mention to prospective customers for BT Infinity that "infinity" was how long they would be kept waiting for the service! | |

| The saga continues. I rang the hell desk again this evening and told them that my speed was still as bad as ever. I had even tried another brand new modem/router to make sure that my Netgear one was not the problem. They asked me to use BT's speed checker and it eventually came back with a speed of 0.33 Mbps which they confirmed after doing a line test I now have another engineer coming out on Thursday. | |

| Finally, I don't know what the engineer did this time but I now have speed of 2.8 Mbps The engineer also told my son that the fibre optics were in place at the cabinet but there were not enough trained technicians available to finish the job | |
