- Colin Beattie, SNP MSP for Midlothian North & Musselburgh, said there was a good economic case for extending the trams to Dalkeith, but a big question mark over how it would be paid for.
Well, which is it, Beattie? If there is a good economic case then there won't be any trouble finding the finance because the private sector will be happy to cough up. Makes sense to secure the line just in case and a line (or lines) to either (or both) of the Shawfair and Straiton P&Rs would be worth considering long-term. Trams are a success story almost everywhere they have been introduced across most of Europe but then most of Europe hasn't managed to make the complete b***s of it that Edinburgh city fathers did. | |

| Surely the police whould be looking in to whoever is supplying whatever drugs these people are on - first they talk about a train line to Penicuik, then a tram along the A701 and now the tram to Dalkeith! What will they think of next! | |

| Why is this even being called a Penicuik rail link? You travel by car or catch the bus to Loanhead. Presumably then park in a brand new giant car park. Catch the train to Millerhill. Get off and change to the Borders rail. How long will that take? The 47 or 62 bus will take half the time. Why spend upwards of £150 million on a rail link that no-one will use? Why not drive to Dalkeith, park in a brand new giant (free) car park that will be provided and catch one of the trams that will soon be coming out from Edinburgh? Have our councillors lost the plot? | |

| What's happening about the famous Penicuik Railway (not to mention the trams to Dalkeith)? | |
