Bellwood road closure

I've just seen the signs at the foot of Bellwood road saying that the part next to the A701
will be closed for the next 4 weeks from 19 August. I'm glad that I don't have to use it every
day. It will be bad enough when I have to get out at the weekends  

Okay, I appreciate that the road had to be closed so that they could replace the gas pipe.
However, today there is a sign saying that the road will be closed for seven days from
18 November so that they can replace a water pipe. What on earth are these utility firms
playing at. I thought they were supposed to talk to each other to avoid this situation  

Great co-ordination from the council as they put traffic lights on Mauricewood Road just as it has to take all the traffic from Belwood Road. Don't know why they are having to shut it again - either they didn't finish the water pipe works last time or someone made a mess and they are having to go back to fix it!

For anyone who is interested, here is the reply I received to my query to Midlothian council.

"Dear Sir,

The recent closure and ongoing works using traffic signals was for the water main to be upgraded by Scottish Water
The current closure is for them to connect this new main to the system at the junction of Belwood Road and the A701.
As the excavation is in the middle of the junction there was no option but to close the road.

The gas main is on the opposite side of the road, in any case, which means any combined works would shut the road in its entirety.
These days all road works are coordinated through the Scottish Road Works Register.

The contractor will be away by Friday at the latest."
