| After what feels like months of temporary traffic lights between Bilston and Straiton it was with delight that when I drove along this morning they where setting up more lights at the A701 / A703 junction, marvellous oh marvellous I thought - now 2 sets of lights to content with... Why they don't just stick traffic lights at Leadburn and Burdiehouse I don't know then the whole length of the A701 could be under temporary traffic light control through Midlothian....

| As if these road works aren't bad enough, yesterday the X37 I was on decided to turn up into Straiton park by mistake. It added another 10 minutes on to my journey. Although it got it right tonight, it still took an extra 15 minutes to get home due to these pesky road works | |

| Seems like someone has a "cunning plan" to delay everybody, especially public transport users who cannot divert to avoid the roadworks. Even though it is a longer route, you are much quicker taking the A702 and city bypass to get to Straiton at the moment! | |

| A sigh of relief this morning to find the roadworks have finally gone at Nobles, on the downside though I see temporary traffic lights have featured today in Penicuik at the Wilson Street / John Street junction then another set on Peebles Road as the road climbs out of town... The business to be in at the moment is clearly cones, road repairs and temporary traffic light suppliers.... | |

| Well, the relief was short lived. I had to wait over 20 minutes in a queue of traffic at Straiton this afternoon due to road works | |

| I had hoped that we might have a had a small rest from road works, but no The gas people started digging up the road at the foot of Bellwood road where it joins the A701 again, for the umpteenth time It was bad enough that half the road was closed but apparently it has now been completely closed off again | |

| I've just heard that they plan to close the road where Bellwood road joins the A701 again The reason is due to a gas leak. I thought that was what they have been trying to fix since before Christmas | |

| More temporary lights on the A701 outside the Jackson Street school site! when does the A701 get its award for "most dug up road and delays 2014-15"?

| Another crash at the Mauricewood Road / A 701 junction this afternoon results in no buses to / from Penicuik and demolishes the lamppost on the traffic island. Maybe we shoul pretend it is in Dalkeith and it might get sorted out.

| So the council spends time and money on resurfacing and widening the path from Milton Bridge to Gowkley so it becomes a shared foot & cycle path but keeps the cycle lanes on the dual carriageway. This morning a cyclist was doing his best to get up the inside lane beside all the traffic through the roadworks when if he'd turned off could have had a trouble free cycle... | |

Just normal for the council who always say that they are skint but can find money to install traffic islands and cycle lanes then more money to remove them. Cyclists always amaze me with their way of going slowly when someone is behind them but speeding up if they see a red light ahead! Did see a sensible thing today when they fitted new lampheads to the existing lamp-posts on Mauricewood Road rather than putting whole new ones in! | |
