Subject: Midlothian Council cash shortfall Tue Feb 17, 2009 3:03 pm
I saw a headline in the Advertiser about cuts in services because of a cash shortfall of Midlothian Council. Does anyone have details? (For instance, lots of councils had money in the Icelandic banks and lost a lot of money. Was Midlothian one of them?)

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember reading something in the Advertiser when the whole Icelandic bank story broke that Midlothian Council had no involvement in that at all. According to this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7662665.stm
seven Scottish councils had investments in the Icelandic banks, but NOT Midlothian.

Plenty about this in the Advertiser (though very little hard facts - the cooncil don't want us to know how much of a mess they made!)
When a Labour former leader of the cooncil is slagging them off, you know that things must be bad. I look forward to them employing some former RBS / HBOS executives to resolve the difficulties!
