Clearing trees

I was just wondering if anyone knew why they were clearing the trees in the former field adjacent to Belwood road and not far from Glencorse farm?

This is the start of the next housing development / countryside destruction scheme from Cala Homes / Avant as described here:

This section is phase one to be followed by developments behind Mauricewood and Deanburn along with new roads connecting Mauricewood Road up to Rullion Road. Going to be fun as we end up with another 1100+ homes in the area and no road infrastructrure improvements apart from the A702 roundabout and A701 traffic lights!
I wonder how the new residents will feel when they discover that any countrside left will now be a long way from their (expensive) new homes?

Thanks, I hadn't realised that Cala were building all the way across from Mauricewood road. I also thought it might
still be some time before any more houses would be built next to Belwood road.
