| It doesn't seem much, but everytime there is a clean up it is the woods here that get cleaned and within a few weeks it needs done again - the main source of the rubbish in there is therefore probably due to pupils from Beeslack in the first instance... | |

Quite correct, but then which supermarket does most of the rubbish originate from? (No prizes for guessing!) I would reckon they make far more than that every school day judging by the number of kids there at lunchtime

| So you reckon Tesco should pay to have the rubbish cleared up? It's not Tesco throwing the rubbish into the woods is it. What your suggesting is almost like blaming Ford for you being caught speeding!! | |

| No I don't think Tesco should pay to clean up the rubbish - it should be the people who drop it in the first place. Catch a few culprits, put them in orange jumpsuits on litter duty for a couple of weeks then it is less likely that they will do it again as well as warning others of the consequences.
Tesco would have been better not making a donation to Beeslack at all as the whole affair must have been pretty bad for their public relations, especially as they are looking to expand the store again.

| I would imagine this decision would have been made "in-store" with such a small amount being involved - some junior manager no doubt who has now been left with a red face and possibly a rollicking from Head Office for all the bad publicity. | |

| It is indeed bad publicity, but Tesco were made aware that the matter would be raised at the Penicuik CC meeting. Assurances were given by Tesco at branch level that they would provide refreshments for the pupils. After about 5 phone calls to the branch, they were told that they would be given £20. (for 160 pupils) When the school contacted me, I spoke to the Tesco manager and he said he would think about it and get back to me. The result was...... £20. I can understand that Tesco receive many requests for assistance, but in this case, Tesco make thousands of £'s from the pupils and should recognise the fact. Why not put something back into the community? The puplis undertook work that was the corporate responsibility of Tesco ( removal of trolleys from the burn) and no doubt saved them hundreds of £'s. My fear is that an oppotunity to forge better relations with BHS and the community has been missed!! | |

| "provide refreshments for the pupils"
That would have been a better idea than the pathetic financial offering
