| Maybe not a bad thing - at least it would give people more of a choice than just McDonalds! | |

| And Loanhead's fine if you like chip shops (2), Chinese (4), Indian (1) and hot food takeaway cafes (2)! | |

| Were they not planning to build more units at Straiton? I know there's the new carphone warehouse/AN other building across from TK Maxx, but had it in my head there was more going up around the M&S/Argos part??? | |

| I think you may be correct about new buildings going up at Straiton. I'm getting addicted to reading through the planning applications on the Middlothian site... (it's amazing what you learn - but I obviously need to get a hobby!)... and I found this as well.
"15 August 2008 Peel Developments (UK) Ltd,Peel Dome,The Trafford Centre,Manchester. Amendment to planning permission reference 05/00127/FUL and 07/00575/FUL (erection of retail units, restaurant unit and alterations to existing units) for change of use of one retail unit to cafe at The Peel Pentland Centre, Straiton Road, Loanhead, Midlothian, EH20 9PW"
Pizza Hut is a slight step up from McD's but I'd love for there to be a decent coffee shop down there, maybe inside a book store. | |

| There seem to be lots of planning applications for the Straiton area....but not much actually seems to get built. The Callyr Inn was approved for demolition back in 2000 but is still sitting there getting more derelict by the day with the remains of the Dansco Dairy factory still there too. All the houses by M&S / Next / Argos have been bricked up but nothing happening there either which hardly makes the place look like an attractive place to go shopping. I wish Midlothian Council would do something about it all - a swift kick up the developers backsides might get some results! | |

| Oooh yes, I'm with you on the coffee shop inside a book store kind of thing - a la Borders at the Fort, that would be lovely! I could spend all day in there! | |

| SueDOnym, I remember the Laich bookstore in Edingurgh's George Street 35 years ago, you could sit with a coffee for a morning and chat and browse and enjoy people. I know what you mean. | |
