Parking vans outside houses... Empty
PostSubject: Parking vans outside houses...   Parking vans outside houses... Icon_minitimeMon Apr 29, 2013 8:47 pm

A few weeks one of the next door neighbours asked the missus if she could try and not leave as much space between the car and other cars parked outside the house as he & his other half were finding the difficult to get his car parked at night sometimes, she has a habit of leaving a bit more space than probably necessary, anyhow since the weekend he has had a work van and his car parked outside thus taking about half the parking spaces available outside the houses... Just to make matters worse over the weekend another neighbour also had a work van parked which mean't very little car parking... I know there's nothing to stop anyone parking on a public street - but I can't help but think it is just down right selfish on the part of folk that take up several spaces when there are very few available...

I think you will find that there are plenty of people who will empathise with you. I can remember when I first moved here that you could park your car just about anywhere. Most people only had one car and they would keep it in their driveway or sometimes even their garage. How times have changed Rolling Eyes I am okay as I have a driveway and only occasionally does someone block it. However, my son has grown up and of course he needed a car as well. Now it is only on the rare occasion that he is able to park in front of our house Sad

Parking problems seem to be getting worse everywhere since no one seems to enforce existing rules - you often see cars parked at junctions and on corners with nobody getting fined for it as used to happen. A red Skoda is often parked on Mauricewood Road opposite the junction with Mauricewood Avenue despite the fact there is loads of space for them to put it elsewhere!
Another new problem is the number of "park and riders" who drop their car in a side street while they get a lift or take the bus. I find that most roads in penicui have become single lanes, especially in the evenings meaning that travelling on a bus is like taking part in a slalom race and if you live near a school then things are even worse at the start and end of the day.
Odd how the police and council cannot or will not do anything about it since they could make lots of money from fining careless parkers.

Something very close to my heart this topic. I have a van parked outside my house blocking half of my access constantly. I have had, at my own expense, the white line repainted and it is still ignored. We have had ato adjust our driving style to enable us to get out of the drive (reverse in instead of reverse out) becuase its difficult to see past the van and because of other cars its difficult to turn. But does the owner of the van or other cars owners in the street consider this - no. Neighbours 2 doors up have 4 cars and only a drive way for one! The houses were not built with multi car families in mind but if you need all that space then surely you would convert your garden to parking and leave some street space for visitors - who cant get parked. I have lost count of the number of times Ive not been ablet o get in or out of my driveway becuase of cars blocking the access. We have also had days where the bucket lorries cant get down because of the cars. personal bug bear of mine the whole parking thing and the council/police should do more about it.
