PostSubject: Does anybody proof read this stuff?   Another blow folk trying to improve our town Icon_minitimeWed May 15, 2013 4:10 pm

"In what is being called “an attack against the PCAA”, Penicuik’s handmade creations, that decorated the town, have been viscously destroyed and removed."

viscously???

"The culprits will be charged for vandalism by the Police."

Surely charged WITH vandalism, and this ambiguous phrasing makes it look as if the police may be the culprits.

*edit 6:30 pm*

It seems they have corrected their spelling and grammar. I wouldn't have thought they would rely on readers to proof read for them, but then again...
they have left the quote "banners you see here were made by born and bread local people with great love and care" Rolling Eyes

Born and bread? Bread? Come on, you're having a laugh aren't you? - The word is 'bred'! Although the 'bread' might come in handy as an accompaniment to the 'heid fu o' mince' they are obviously operating with. Smile

PostSubject: Breaking news Peni Cuckoo fails to use correct word again!   Another blow folk trying to improve our town Icon_minitimeWed May 15, 2013 6:45 pm

"There are tentative signs this week that Penicuik's frigid local economy may be fighting back after the recession."

frigid:
frig·id (frjd)
adj.
1. Extremely cold.
2. Lacking warmth of feeling.
3. Stiff and formal in manner: a frigid refusal to a request.
4. Persistently averse to sexual intercourse.

[Latin frgidus, cold, from frgus, the cold.]
fri·gidi·ty (fr-jd-t), frigid·ness n.
frigid·ly adv.

Which definition of frigid could possibly be used to describe Penicuik's local economy?
Answers on a postcard please Smile

AS the vandalism happened in an area supposedly covered by the CCTV system, the police should be honest and tell the public if it works or not. If it does not work or is not recorded then they may as well take it all down as there is no point in having such a system. Local businesses could then take their own precautions to prevent crime though I am sure they might find their insurance costs increasing once the truth comes out!

Spelling & grammer, you'd imagine should correct but still does not take away from the fact that there are mongrels out their who could not give a stuff about the town they live in..

You're right, of course, but why would you expect anything else? That's the society you're living in in 21st century Britain!
And unfortunately the more you do "weird" things like decorating the public space with knitted objects the more the knuckle draggers are going to vandalise them.
As someone once remarked, when a dog pees on a lamp post he's not being a vandal; he's just being a dog. There is no animosity in these actions; they're just doing what comes naturally — being yobs.
Don't take it personally. As for not giving "a stuff about the town they live in", they wouldn't understand what you mean; you might as well be talking Swahili.
Crying or Very sad

A slightly higher standard of literacy from something that purports to be a local newspaper would be a blessing though! Rolling Eyes
