I had to get rid of an old Tv and some cardboard boxes at the skips in Bellman's road in Penicuik today. I wasn't sure what the opening times were, so I looked up midlothian's website http://www.midlothian.gov.uk//Article.aspx?TopicId=0&ArticleId=18288
I was pleasantly surprised to find that they have changed the opening hours which used to be less convenient Smile

However, I was disappointed that apart from someone with tree cuttings, most of the waste that people were bringing seemed to be going into the one skip Rolling Eyes

On Monday I had a number of cardboard boxes to get rid of, took them to Bellmans Road and got told just to stick them in the big compactor skip thing - along with everything else, the only thing that they where remotely interested in adding to a recycling skip was a metal radiator. I can't help but think that unless it can go in the blue & red boxes they really aren't interested.. Which makes you wonder why we bother..

They should be setting an example and at least have a separate small enclosed skip just for paper and cardboard. I don't know if the reason is that some people might misuse it by putting in the wrong kind of waste. I know that some of the boxes I had were filled with polystyrene but I was going to remove it before disposing of them. However, surely there must be some kind of solution, even if it means having it available only when someone is there to monitor it.

I was just wondering if anyone had any more information on what this will mean for recycling in Midlothian http://www.midlothianadvertiser.co.uk/news/Recycling-project-hits-the-scrapheap.4240395.jp

I wouldn't be surprised if Midlothian start to get some ideas in the near future Rolling Eyes

Strange, the article says that the survey will be available from the end of February but I have already posted about it here https://midforum.editboard.com/t370-recycling-survey

Its a good idea about supplying us withh wheelie bins for our recycling as those small red and blue boxes are useless, argh thoses lids and as for recycling food weekly where is everybody going to keep that bin will it not atract cats seagulls(flying rats) etc and in the summer flies and smells

There was one thing I noticed which was not mentioned in the recycling survey but was in the free paper. The number of free bulky uplifts that we have at the moment is to be reduced from 4 to 2. That is one thing that I definitely do not agree with Mad
