I have heard that the recycling centre in Penicuik does not accept household furniture. I need to get rid of a 3 piece suite. Does anyone know if they will accept it?

Checked the Midlothian Council website and it appears neither recycling centre takes furniture -

If it is still in good condition then you could try British Heart Foundation who will collect:

I looked at their website too and couldn't find anything that explicitly says
that they do not accept furniture. They do say that they accept non recyclable
material though. It is well past it's useful life though.

I have also heard that they are not opening the yard at the times that
they are supposed to. Has anyone had any experience of this?

Was there today and there certainly seems to be nowhere for large items of furniture (they presumably want everybody to use the collection service and pay for it). There seem to be lots of new regulations with signs all over the place and now there is no pedestrian access allowed so you cannot take smaller items in on foot - great for people without cars - and all vans have to be booked in with nothing over 2 tonnes allowed. Heard rumours that Bellmans Road is to close (though presumably not until after the elections next year) so everyone would have to travel all the way to Gorebridge!!!!

Okay, I phoned the council and was told that they would not be able accept something like a couch as it will not fit
in their compacting machine. It seems you would need to take it to Stobhill recycling centre.
