Taylor Wimpey have done a little bit more than putting up a fence as you will see from the Penicuik Cuckoo report here:

http://www.penicuikcuckoo.co.uk/2013/08/feature-the-expansion-starts-now/

and reading that gives you an idea of what our esteemed council have in store for us with more and more houses plus Beeslack becoming the school for Bilston, Bilston and Loanhead pupils while Penicuik ones (including those from Greenlaw Mill) travel to Penicuik High School!

The Cuckoo's report is slightly misleading but that is not their fault.
The development which is being started now (as far as I can see from several hundred miles away!) is part of the housing requirement in the last Local Plan but one, or possibly but two! The Local Plan after that zoned the rest of that site up to Belwood for a further development, one of the community council's comments at the time of that Plan being that there be a requirement that the previous development be completed before work on the new phase started to avoid Wimpey quietly ignoring the usual rule of developing outward and leap-frogging the difficult bit around the old Mauricewood Bing.
A similar situation applies on the other side of Mauricewood Road where Cala (I think?) are/were the owners of a large tract stretching from Deanburn to Mauricewood Mains which was earmarked for housing under the same two Local Plans.
If it hadn't been for the slump/crash/depression/bank bail-outs/Wimpey financial problems/whatever the site immediately behind Greenlaw Mains ought to have been finished and occupied the best part of 10 years ago.
My question would be after all this time and the changes that have taken place in Edinburgh's financial sector (HBOS, RBS, Scottish Widows, when these Plans were developed Standard Life was still a mutual!, etc.) whether Edinburgh hinterland still needs all the houses that are in the pipeline.

Well, it didn't take them long to clear out the trees at the back of Mauricewood.

I presume these are what they used.

A nice picture of the "single JCB" which has been working on the Greenlaw Mill development behind Greenlaw Mains and Belwood. (if you see more than one digger in the pictures or real life then you need to go to Specsavers!) The man from Wimpey says there is one so it must be true!

The planning application for the advertising and huts etc went in yesterday for Greenlaw Mill so you can check all the details here:
https://planning-applications.midlothian.gov.uk/OnlinePlanning/caseFile.do?category=application&caseNo=13/00559/ADV

Despite numerous mentions, they still have housing in the garden of number 15 Boyd-orr Drive so there might be a slight problem there. Maybe a last minute injunction possibly???

Has anybody in Boyd-orr Drive, Arras Grove or Namur Road had any official notification about work starting yet?Question

Still time to object to the largest opencast coal mine in Scotland.

Share this link on your social media groups.

No matter where you live your objection counts – let’s send a strong message to Midlothian Council that we don’t want this mine. Using the form below you can use our standard objection letter, change it or write your own. Please pass this on to friends, family and neighbours.

Midlothian Council have said they’ll keep accepting objections, but this could end any time – so get yours in quick!

The contractors have been told to stop what they are doing as the work does not have permission (building temporary access road and compound)!
We shall wait to see what happens buy any further building works should be reported to Midlothian Council planning department.

No indication of the permissions being granted on the council site so far though Taylor Wimpey finally got round to sending out letters to let us know that they were going to start work!
The site is a wonderful mess now with big puddles and the barriers falling down all over the place. Seems like all the plant has disappeared off to other sites such as Burdiehouse and the former petrol station at Liberton.

Looks like they are going to put the power lines underground next as Scottish Power have some roadworks booked starting on the 7th October.

Hope there are no power cuts!

Scottish Power started work today so expect delays due to the traffic lights on Mauricewood Road (just at Boyd-orr Drive junction and going up to Mauricewood House entrance) so there might be more people going via Belwood Road to avoid them.
Hopefully they will get the job done quickly!

Looks like some work has been going on at Mauricewood Road for the Coal Authority which bodes well since TW want to build lots of houses on the other side of the road! I also noticed that the road surface is in a very poor condition so who knows what the "worst winter in decades" we are due to get will do to it. It might end up being closed off like Roslin Glen if it gets any worse which would be fun!

It looks like they missed a word out in the name for the new development - it should read "Greenlaw Mill Pond"

If you are looking for a laugh then check out Taylor Wimpey's website for Greenlaw Mill.....completion due in 2026 after they start work in November 2013!!!

Seems like Wimpey did not like your picture Andy as they sent the digger in today to make some ditches and drain the water away.

Seems like this development should be renamed "Norwegian Blue" after the Monty Python sketch since Wimpey keep insisting it is going ahead while others say it might never happen. The latest I have heard is that there are problems with land ownership regarding the roundabout on the A702, something you would have thought would have been sorted out ages ago when the plans for it were approved in April 2009!
I am amazed that the fence panels littered around the site on Mauricewood Road are still there as items on building sites often "vanish" despite being locked up.

Could this be a reason for the lack of houses getting built?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-28303482

Maybe they will have to get in touch with Lego!

More "Jackanory" stuff from Taylor Wimpey!

http://www.penicuikcuckoo.co.uk/2015/03/wimpey-refute-officials-claims/

If they are so keen on this site then why have they not started work yet? Their other local site at Ashgrove Fields on the outskirts of Loanhead has all the signs and huts up but no houses there yet that I can see?
