I noticed that this afternoon - all very shiny and must have cost a few quid. Strange how much cleaning up work has been done along the route on the A701 which has been neglected before!

Also check the Torchbearers on the website - very odd choices and people don't often seem to carry it in their home towns. Lots of people from "some distance" too - Toronto!

I don't get the logic.
If Brian Christie's one of the torch bearers why not in Penicuik? You would think that would encourage more people to turn out. No?

I would have agreed but it is estimated 20,000 people turned out across Midlothian to watch the relay.

There was an aticle in the press about an enthusiastic teenager, aspiring athlete, future hope, wonderfully encouraged by being selected to carry the flame. Can you imagine the exitement in that household? Less that a week from the event he is bumped for some sponsor's employee of the year, or some such corporate bollocks. Paah, the Peoples' Olympics, eh?

Come on, ironlung, you didn't believe all that crap did you?
This link http://www.spectator.co.uk/issues/26-may-2012/status-anxiety-quenching-the-flame will take you to an article by Toby Young in The Spectator on the subject.
Well worth reading.

Anyway, although I was unable to go to the torch parade, my wife and son went and took some pictures just past Glencorse barracks
