Would you believe it?! Thirteen bloody years this has taken. I thought i was going to die before it happened!
But just think how much more they can charge for them now. Every silver lining has a cloud.

So we now discover that the traffic lights at the new Greenlaw Mill roundabout on Mauricewood Road are there for "safety reasons" as realignment of the roundabout is required, just as many people warned that it was too narrow. The full post from the council is here:

https://twitter.com/i/web/status/928578049720963079

I would love to know who approved this road for re-opening and how much it is going to cost to sort the mess out. We also need to know when they are going to actually start work on the A701 and A702 junction improvements (or has all the money been spent already)

Work is supposed to start between 22nd and 30th November according to the Streetworks site (you will need to search for Mauricewood Road and then select the icon on the map)

Wow - work has finally begun to fix the new roundabout. Wonder how long it will take them and if they will get it right this time?

More houses coming to Penicuik as the Cala / Avant development behind Mauricewood and Deanburn gets the go-ahead.

https://www.cala.co.uk/-/media/files/planning/penicuik/1700068dpp-mauricewood-road,-penicuik.pdf?la=en

Full details of what is coming here:

https://www.cala.co.uk/-/media/files/planning/penicuik/1700068dpp-mauricewood-road,-penicuik.pdf?la=en

Should be great for the town - more cars on the roads taking people to work in Edinburgh and kids to Cuiken School / Penicuik High, more pollution, more delays at full health centres!

They have started (but not finished) fixing the Greenlaw Mill roundabout though not the slightest indication of any work at the A701 and A702 junctions yet so unlikely to be anything done until well into January now

Shocking news which is totally unexpected - roundabout completion is delayed until end of August???

https://twitter.com/Penicuik_Cuckoo/status/995074622730235906

At least they have finally patched the potholes at the A701 / Mauricewood junction since it will be quite some time before work starts there!

It's really annoying, there seems to be road works everywhere. To try and avoid the ones at Kaimes crossroads
I took a detour to Gilmerton only to find that there were more road works there as well Evil or Very Mad

More bad news as the company building the roundabout has gone bust! Who knows when it will be finished now - maybe in time for the next batch of houses to be built?

It's quite nice having such a quiet road when I take my grandson for walks when he stays with me. However, I was just looking at the houses they've just built and every one of them has a car(about 40-50 maybe), so the numbers will continue to grow. It's the workers who are being made redundant from the firm that I really feel sorry for.

I went for a walk up to where the new roundabout is supposed to be today. It looks like whoever takes over the job still has quite a bit of work to do.

Now you could buy a bit of land off Mauricewood Road!

https://www.galbraithgroup.com/property/str180074-amenity/potential-development-land-mauricewood-road-penicuik-midlothian-eh26-0jp

Would be nice to preserve it from the non-stop building!

Article in The national paper about the A702 "roundabout" problems with Taylor Wimpey using lots of words to say not much!

Latest update from the Community tab on the Greenlaw Mill page for Taylor Wimpey:

https://www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/find-your-home/scotland/midlothian/penicuik/greenlaw-mill

July 2018

We wanted to give an update on our work to find a replacement contractor to complete the roundabout works on the A702.

We have finished our review of the works that have already been implemented on site and are near to concluding our discussions with alternative contractors who could complete the remainder of the roundabout works. Based on these discussions, we would expect a contractor to be appointed by mid August 2018. In order for the contractor to make the necessary pre-construction health and safety arrangements, we would then expect them to be on site and restarting works by the end of August. The works should take around 3 months to complete.

We apologise for any inconvenience whilst we take the necessary steps to resolve this unforeseen issue, and we would like to reassure you that we are working hard to ensure that any disruption and delay in the completion of the works is kept to an absolute minimum.

We will update further once a contractor is formally appointed.

******************

It MIGHT be finished this year - assuming that someone does not steal it with the crime spree at the moment!

Our Midlothian MP has posted a great photo on her Facebook page which really shows why people are not best pleased with the current state of the A702 at the new roundabout site:
